Glycolic Acid is one of the alpha hydroxy acids (fruit acids). It is a naturally occurring substance, which means it has minimal risks of complications. It can be applied to the skin as a mask or in solution, and causes an exfoliation of the thin top layer of skin. By removing these cells the skin is rejuvenated and has a smoother more glowing appearance.
How does acid peel work?
Glycolic Acid peels will remove the top dead layers of skin cells that are responsible for the skin looking dull and dry. Whilst it cannot produce the same results as a deep peel, it will help to improve the quality and texture of the skin and clear clogged pores. The process works by the glycolic acid loosening the glue like substance that holds the epidermal skin cells together, allowing the dead skin cells to flake off. The treatment has no down time and it is painless.
